Neuromodulators are wrinkle-relaxing injections of botulinum toxin – commercially known as Botox Cosmetic, Jeuveau or Xeomin – that are used to treat wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet. A minute amount of the neuromodulator is injected directly into the underlying muscle, causing it to relax and gradually smooth out the appearance of the overlying skin. The effects typically last about three months.

Wrinkle relaxing injections are used to reduce the appearance of frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines. They temporarily soften the muscle movements responsible for these common signs of aging, smoothing out the facial creases and also preventing wrinkles from getting worse.

The differences between Botox, Jeuveau, and Xeomin are minor, but choosing the correct injectable requires a full understanding of how they function and choosing what is right for your skin condition. All these products are formulated from the botulinum toxin but are produced differently. Xeomin, called the naked injectable, contains only botulinum toxin A without added proteins. The other two have botulinum toxin A encased in proteins.

Botox is the most popular of all non-surgical injectable treatments. Jeuveau is the latest neuromodulator treatment to become available in the USA, manufactured with an advanced method for encasing the toxin in a protein structure. With Xeomin, you may have better results if you have developed a resistance to the additives in the other formulas.

These safe and effective anti-aging treatments only take a few minutes and their benefits last for 3 to 4 months.

If you’re in good overall physical, mental, and emotional health, we will discuss your expectations, potential risks and outcomes of the procedure. Many times, doctors will ask if a patient has recently taken or is currently taking any blood thinning drugs, over-the-counter medications and supplements, previous neuromodulator therapy, injectable antibiotics, muscle relaxants, or allergy, cold or sleep medicine.

Frequently asked questions

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Botox is a neuromodulator (form of botulinum toxin type A) that is injected into targeted treatment areas using an ultra-fine needle. It works by blocking the nerve signals needed for facial muscles to contract. Once injected, it relaxes the muscles and decreases their movement to reduce the appearance of lines or wrinkles in the area. You will see your results gradually over 3-7 days following injection.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

The results of Botox typically last between 3-5 months from the date of injection. Over time the body metabolizes it, leading to the slow return of muscle movement in the treatment area. Patients can choose to maintain their results for longer periods by undergoing periodic maintenance treatments every 3-4 months.

WHAT AREAS OF THE FACE CAN BE TREATED WITH IT?

It can be used to address lines and wrinkles on a number of different facial areas, including the forehead, eye area (crow’s feet), and lip lines. It may also be used to soften dimples on the chin.

WHAT DOES the TREATMENT FEEL LIKE?

Botox treatments are quick with minimal discomfort. The treatment requires no anesthesia or recovery time. Many people get Botox during their lunch hours and are able to return to work right after their appointment.

WILL MY FACE LOOK OVERDONE OR UNNATURAL?

One of the biggest concerns people have with Botox is that they think it will give them a ‘frozen’ look, removing their ability to make facial expressions as usual. This comes down to how much is used. Our Synergistiq Wellness professionals will make sure you are satisfied with your results. Contact us today!

Can men have Botox?

Men make up about 10 percent of all Botox patients. It is popular among men who want to gently soften lines and wrinkles without looking like they have had any work done.
