As I am preparing to lecture on cannabis at two big conferences in Nov and Dec (AMMG & A4M), my goal is to shed light and bring awareness regarding this topic, by dispelling myths and misconceptions about this ancient, therapeutic plant.
It has been used in India and China for over 10,000 years.
We have innate CBD receptors in our brain and body that existed before our brains were fully developed, as evidenced in primitive sea sponges. We actually need omega (this is why I check omega levels in my patients) as a precursor to produce endogenous cannabinoids, such as anandamide, a neurotransmitter that interacts with a CBD receptor.
Ananda is Sanskrit for “bliss” or “joy.” Anandamide is a feel-good brain chemical that is essential for well being and mood balance.
There are also phytocannabinoids, which are plant sources such as cannabis (hemp & marijuana).
Lastly there are synthetic cannabinoids, which are pharmaceuticals such as marinol.
